Torrential Rainfall in Northern Kyushu, July 2017

This is a disaster that occurred in between July 5-6, 2017, when a linear precipitation belt was generated due to the influence of a stationary seasonal rain front near the Tsushima Strait.

In the northern Kyushu region, the maximum rainfall in 24 hours from July 5 to 6, 2017 exceeded 500㎜ at many places, and in Asakura City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Hita City, Oita Prefecture, the heavy rainfall broke the previous observation record.

Stagnant fronts and typhoon No. 7 caused record-breaking rainfall over a wide area, mainly in western Japan.
This heavy rain caused landslides and other disasters in Hiroshima Prefecture. Large-scale flooding damage occurred in Okayama Prefecture. Ehime Prefecture also experienced river flooding and landslides.
